    Description: 
    Abstract, bayonet-shaped, four-sided tapered spire. The spire, constructed of steel and aluminum armature, is faced in white marble. The top peak of the spire is painted red, white and blue in an American flag motif. The sculpture sits on a concrete base.

    Nearby plaque: "Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. County of Suffolk. Dedicated November 11, 1991. To honor the service and sacrifice of all Vietnam veterans."
    The sculpture was commissioned in 1986 and was chosen through competition. Funding for the sculpture was provided by the county, private citizens and local companies. Much of the construction costs were donated in kind by local companies. The chosen design was unveiled May 30, 1989. Groundbreaking was Veteran's Day 1990 and the sculpture was dedicated one year later. IAS files contain copy of dedication program.
