Remarks:
The memorial was installed by the Ukrainian-American community of
Elmira
Heights
, to honor the Ukrainian national poet Shevchenko. Cheresnowsky designed the monument, using a plaster casting originally sculpted by Pawlosz for the relief. The original plaster casting is owned by The Ukrainian National Home in
New
York
(NY) and was based on one of Shevchenko's self-portraits. IAS files contain copy of related Memorial booklet, "120, 1861-1981, Taras Shevchenko,

Heights
, N.Y., August 23, 1981".
