Remarks:
Sybil Ludington was a sixteen-year old Putnam County girl who is known as the female Paul Revere because of her famous ride of April 26, 1777 through the dark countryside to alert those living in the outlying farms that the British were burning Danbury, Connecticut. The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: Sybil Ludington/rode horseback over this/road the night of April 26, 1777/to call out Colonel Ludington's regiment to/repel British at Danbury, Conn.
