    Remarks:
George F. Johnson came to Binghamton, New York from Massachusetts in his twenties to work for the Lester Brothers Boot and Shoe Company. He later became head of the entire operation, which grew into the Endicott-Johnson Company, and became one of the area's largest employers. The monument was commissioned by the Endicott-Johnson Company as a tribute to its founder. The monument was installed when George F. Johnson was 65 years old, but the sculpture depicts him as a younger man. Local resident, Dorothy Joggerst, modeled for the figure of the girl. IAS files contain an excerpt from Gerald R. Smith's "The Valley of Opportunity: A Pictorial History of the Greater Binghamton Area," Norfolk, VA: The Donning Company, 1988, pg. 141.
