He holds a pair of binoculars to his eyes with his proper right hand. His proper left arm is akimbo. A full-length figure of a Civil War soldier stands on the platform on the proper left side. He wears a uniform including long overcoat and cap, and has a moustache. His proper right arm is bent and his hand is tucked in the breast of his coat. He holds the barrel of a rifle with his proper left hand; the butt of the gun rests on the ground near his feet. The base ends in three steps.
