Remarks:
The
sculpture
is a memorial to veterans of all U.S. wars and was purchased for $1,000. It was a gift of James B. Titman, a Civil War veteran, county landowner, merchant, farmer and horse breeder. IAS files contain an excerpt from "The Soldier's Monument in
Sparta
" by Mary Elinor Eppler, which suggests the
sculpture
was fabricated by the Friedley-Voshardt Company, and provides an illustration of the
sculpture
from around 1900. IAS files also contain a related article from The
New
Jersey
Herald, Aug. 28, 1987, pg. 1.
