Inscription:  (Upper front of base, incised:) COLUMBUS (Lower front of base, incised:) ERECTED BY THE GRATEFUL/CITIZENS OF/JERSEY CITY/1950 Description:  Columbus standing in period dress. He wears a skull cap, gloves, and a wind-swept cape. A short sword hangs from his belt and he holds up a cross with his proper left hand by his proper right shoulder. His proper right arm is outstretched to his side.
