Remarks:
The monument was initiated by the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. It was the first monument erected in
Nebraska
under state legislation which gave cities the authority to levy taxes for monuments. There were originally ten bubbling cups, one for each Kearney County resident who died in the war, around the basin. IAS files include a copy of a poster advertising the dedication and a related article from a
Minden
newspaper, 1924.
