    Description: 
    Seated figure of Albert Woolson, wearing his G.A.R. medal-covered jacket, pants, shoes, shirt and a tie. His civil war hat is on his proper left side with the letters G.A.R. on the front. His proper right hand holds a cane. He is seated on a bench which sits on a granite base.

    Remarks: 
    The figure was completed in 1955, when Albert Woolson, the last Union army survivor, was age 108. Relocated when Canal was remodeled. Used to stand on tall pedestal about 100 feet away from current location. Nearby plaque reads: Albert Woolson/Born February 11, 1847 Watertown, N.Y./Died August 2, 1956 Duluth, Mn./Battery C/1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery/The last Union Survivor. IAS files contain related article from Moira F. Harris's book entitled "Monumental Minnesota," Pogo Press, 1992, pg. 30-32.
