Description:
The memorial consists of a central granite shaft topped by a bronze eagle and flanked by bronze figures of a soldier and a sailor each resting on a short granite base. The eagle at the top of the central shaft has its wings spread. On the shaft below the eagle is a bronze inscription plaque. On the right side of the central shaft is a sailor dressed in his uniform sitting on a ship's winch and kneeling on his proper right knee. A coiled rope rests near his feet. He holds a rifle in his proper right hand and rests the barrel of the rifle on his proper left knee. A seagull's head appears in relief over his shoulders. On the left side of the central shaft is a soldier dressed in a desert uniform kneeling on his proper left knee. He holds a rifle in both hands and rests the barrel of the rifle on his proper right knee. A relief of jungle palm fronds appears behind his head.
