    Description: 
    A figure of a mustached Civil War soldier, dressed in a military uniform consisting of a knee-length jacket, a cape, and a brimmed cap, stands at parade rest holding an upright flagpole in his proper left hand. The base of the flagpole rests near his proper left foot. The figure's proper right arm is raised slightly in front of him at waist level. The figure is placed atop a highly ornate base that is decorated on the front with the seal of Salem, on the back with an eagle, a shield, and flags, on one side with the seal of Massachusetts, and on the other side with the G.A.R. seal.
