    Description: 
    Originally five, now six, abstract concrete sculptures embedded with a variety of ceramic pieces that illustrate Newton's history, its businesses, its recreational life, and its people.

    Remarks: 
    Five of the sculptures were installed in 1981 and the sixth was installed in 1982. The sculptures were funded with a $1,500 grant from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities, and contributions from businesses and individuals. The ceramic pieces imbedded in the sculptures were created by more than 200 Newton residents. The sculpture project was sponsored by the Newton Centre Improvement and Business Associations, George Levy of Chandler-Levy Hardware, and the Arts in the Parks Program of the Newton Recreation Department. IAS files contain articles from The Newton Villager and Transcript, Nov. 19, 1981, pg. 12 and Dec. 17, 1981, pg. 2, 18.
