Description:
This
sculpture
celebrating Italian heritage in
Lowell
incorporates an engraving of Medieval Italian architecture and a recessed shape of Italy on one side and the mills of
Lowell
, a figure of Christopher Columbus, and a pair of immigrants on the other side. The
sculpture
is somewhat circular with cut out sections and raised sections. The
sculpture
rests on two legs attached to a rectangular granite base which rests on a low stone wall.

. The inscription on a plaque attached to the stone wall beneath the
sculpture
reads: To honor the settlers of Italian/descent and to recognize the/contributions of Italians to the/history of humanity/Dedicated by/their grateful descendants this/12th day of October 1987.
