cost $13,500 and was erected as a Bicentennial project by the Joseph L. Davis Post No. 47 of the American Legion and the

Grace
Bicentennial Commission. $1,700 of cost was contributed by American Legion Post 47 and $1,000 was contributed from the publication The Aegis. The project was the idea of David Craig, a
Havre
de
Grace
resident and teacher. It is said that Lafayette gave
Havre
de
Grace
its name, finding it reminiscent of France's Port of Le
Havre
