Description:
A Union infantry man stands with both hands clasped over the end of a rifle held barrel-up, rifle butt on the ground at the outside of the proper right foot and projecting beyond the edge of the square plinth. The proper left foot is placed forward to the corner of the plinth. The soldier has a moustache and beard, wears a visored cap, a knee-length great coat with cape, and carries a bayonet on his proper left hip and a cartouche on the back of his belt. The
sculpture
is mounted on a rectangular, tiered base and is set in a small, triangular plot surrounded by Civil War graves.

Remarks:
The monument is in honor of Allegany County men who fought in the Civil War. The
sculpture
was installed by the Woman's Relief Corps. It was dedicated on Memorial Day 1895.
