Danforth signed founder's mark appears Description:  Full-length standing figure of a young man. He is dressed in an open-collared work shirt, cuffed blue jeans, belt and work boots. His proper right shirt sleeve is rolled up and he is in the process of rolling up the other sleeve. The bottom of the base has a checkerboard pattern. C. Penney Building, Chevy Chase, Maryland Remarks:  The statue was donated by Donald Danforth, in honor of his father, William H. Danforth, the founder of the Ralston-Purina Company. The checkerboard pattern near the bottom of the base is a reference to Ralston-Purina's checkerboard trademark. The figure is modeled after a St. Louis area high school student, and the inscriptions are quotations of advice to young Americans by William Danford. The statue is a copy of the original, which is on display at the Ralston-Purina plant in St. Louis, Missouri. The American Farm Boy is a companion piece to the American Farm Girl (MD000081).
