Description:
The monument consists of a mother seated in a rocking chair with her baby daughter in her lap and her young son climbing up onto her knee. She holds a Bible in her proper right hand. The mother has her hair pulled up into a bun, wears small horn-rimmed glasses, and a long-sleeved, ankle-length dress. The daughter holds a doll in her arms and wears a knee-length dress, socks and shoes. The son is barefoot and is dressed in overalls. The
sculpture
is mounted on a rectangular base.

Remarks:
The
sculpture
cost $49,000 and was commissioned by
Pineville
's mayor Fred Baden. The funds were raised through donations of $250 for listing the name of the donor's mother or spouse on the bronze plaque on the monument's base. IAS files contain articles from River Cities (1987): pg. 12, 34; and The Dallas Morning News, Aug. 31, 1986, pg. 53A; and a copy of the dedication program. In addition, IAS files contain letters and contracts documenting the agreements between the artist and the City of
Pineville
for the
sculpture
's execution and funding; the artist's statement; fund-raising letters developed by the Motherhood Memorial Committee; and a letter from Mayor Fred Baden to the committee members with information on obtaining contributions and the site chosen for the monument.
