Description:
A stone
sculpture
of St. Peter, standing and wearing long robes. In his proper left hand he holds a large key and in his proper right hand he holds a shepherd's crook. The
sculpture
stands in a niche with an elaborately carved canopy and a simple base.

Remarks:
This piece is one of four figures in niches on the facade of the Holy Name of Mary Church. Inscription on nearby marker reads: CHURCH OF THE/HOLY NAME OF MARY/(Cross emblem)/FORMER CHURCH GREETED 1871/AND DEMOLISHED 1927/PRESENT CHURCH GREETED 1929. IAS files contain a church booklet by Rev. J. Francis Georgelin entitled, "The Marist Fathers and the Holy Name of Mary Church," 1949, which describes not only the facade

, but also additional facade ornamentation and its symbolism. IAS image file also contains a photograph of the front of the Holy Name of Mary Church with all four of the facade sculptures visible in their niches --see photo for Enrique Alferez's image of Mary, LA000020.
