Description:
Four sculptures of partially clad women representing the Four Seasons. Each holds an object raised above her head. Winter holds dead birds from the hunt; a dog is by her feet and cattails are nearby. Spring holds a bouquet of flowers. Rabbits are by her feet and sugar cane is nearby. Summer holds sunflowers, with alligators at her feet and vines encircling her. Fall holds grapevines and clusters of grapes. A ram is by her side. The four Art Nouveau-style figures stand upon bases with mortared bench extensions, all identically decorated with a flower or plant motif.

Remarks:
The sculptures were donated by C. Perry Snell, and are part of the Perry Snell Collection. Snell was a former
Bowling
Green
resident, and presented the sculptures to the Western
Kentucky
State Teachers College and Ogden College (predecessors of Western
Kentucky
University), the latter of which he was a student. The sculptures were shown at the Turin Exposition 1900-1901. The Board of Regents approved the installation of the sculptures on November 16, 1929, and landscape architect Henry W. Wright designed the Italian Gardens and sited the sculptures.
