Remarks:
Commission by the Women's Relief Corps in 1910, for $1,600 raised through public subscription. The monument honors Jones County soldiers killed in the War of 1812 and the Civil War. The idea for the monument was originally proposed in 1864 in an editorial in the
Anamosa
Eureka. A site was prepared by local citizens and subsequent editorials called for the monument's erection until its eventual commission in 1910.
