    Description: 
    A continuous frieze of bronze relief sculptures depicting various Civil War soldiers taking leave of their families circle the base of a granite obelisk. A female figure, representing Victorious Peace, holding a leaf in her proper right hand stands on top of the obelisk. The base rests on three tiers of stone.

    Gift of John H. Winterbotham. Cost of sculpture was $15,000. IAS files contain a related article from the Michigan City DISP WKLY (sic), June 1, 1893 and a citation to "History of Michigan City, Indiana," by Rollo B. Oglesbee, 1908. The sculpture was nominated for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, Washington Park, Michigan City, Indiana, 1991.
