    Description: 
    A Civil War soldier stands with proper left foot forward and proper right leg against a tree stump behind him. He holds a rifle in front of him with the rifle butt on the ground. The sculpture is mounted atop a tall shaft of grey-veined marble set on a two-tiered square base on three steps.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture cost $2,000 and was erected by the Charlotte Carson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in memory of Confederate soldiers. A dedication ceremony was held on Confederate Memorial Day, April 26, 1910. The sculpture was originally installed at the corner of Love Avenue & 4th Street. In the early 1940s it was moved to the courthouse lawn. A short time later, around the mid-1940s, the sculpture was relocated to the center of Tift Avenue and 12th Street. On August 15, 1975, the sculpture was moved to the edge of Fulwood Park. It was placed 50 feet further into the park on March 31, 1992. The sculpture was rededicated at a service sponsored by the Charlotte Carson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy on April 24, 1992.
