Provenance:
Formerly in the collection of Batchelder, family of, Osterville, Massachusetts
Remarks:
This is a concrete copy of the original marble fountain commissioned by August Heckscher in 1919 for his Long Island estate. This copy was originally in the possession of the Batchelder family at their home in Osterville, MA. See IAS files for related collection catalog excerpt for the piece in the Heckscher Museum. Heckscher's grandchildren - Lionel, Virginia and Nancy Brett - apparently were the inspiration for the piece. The fountain was refurbished in June 1993.
