Description:
"The base of the fountain, fabricated from native
Connecticut
granite, is octagonal. Above the base is a round section with asymmetrical scotia profile. The bowl, made of granite from Milford, NH, is ogee-shaped with a heavy rounded lip." In the center of the basin is a cylinder with four sea creatures, spouting water, separated by spinning wheels, the symbol of the DAR.

Remarks:
This fountain, designed for horses, was originally placed downtown in
Torrington
's five-street intersection and may at one have been sited in Coe Park, before being moved to its present site in the 1950s-1960s. The fountain was a gift of the Daughters of the American Revolution to the city and cost $5,000. IAS files contain a copy of the article from the

Register (

, CT), June 11, 1921 discussing the unveiling of the fountain. Olmsted Brothers supplied the fountain and John DeMichiel Company of
Torrington
, CT "completed" the work.
