Description:
The monument consists of an obelisk mounted on a two-stepped, rough-finished, square base. The obelisk is adorned with three bands of rough-finished stone. Below the second band is a raised image consisting of crossed rifles with bayonets, a wreath, a knapsack, and a canteen. Each side of the obelisk above the second band is adorned with raised images of the regiment's badge. On the north side of the lowest section of the obelisk is a raised image of a knapsack with the raised numerals 26.

Remarks:
The monument was erected to the memory of the 26th Regiment
Connecticut
Volunteer Infantry. The 26th participated in the Siege of Port Hudson, May 27th to July 7, 1863. The monument cost $2,000, of which $1,000 was appropriated by the State Legislature in 1899, and the remaining $1,000 matched locally. A Monument Committee was established to erect the monument, with L. O. Smith of New York as chairman. For related articles see: the
