    Remarks:
The sculpture is dedicated to the veterans of all wars fought by the United States. It was commissioned by the City Council. It cost $16,000. At the time of its dedication it was the largest bronze monument in Connecticut. The figures represent four major ethnic groups in the United States. The broken stairs represent the destruction of war. The ascending nature of the sculpture conveys the configuration of a flame, symbolizing the intensity with which people are moved to fight for their ideals. Original plans called for a surrounding garden, a reflecting pool and a memorial plaque honoring those who served. IAS files contain related article from the Norwalk Hour, May 31, 1966, pg. 1.
