    Remarks:
Albert Rockwell (1862-1925) along with his brother founded the New Departure Manufacturing Company, which became a unit of General Motors, and for decades was Bristol's leading employer. Rockwell was also active in the civic affairs of Bristol and donated to the city the park where his memorial is located. Financing for the $3,000 monument came from the private donations of nearly 2,500 people, with no sum over $10.00 being accepted. The relief plaque was created by the Gorham Company, and Harold I. Arms of Arms Monument Works fashioned the stele and surrounding benches. IAS files contain a news clipping from the Bristol Press (Connecticut), June 28, 1926, pg. 1:1, listing the number and amount of contributions collected to build the monument.
