The sculpture may have been carved by its donor, J. S. Arguella, a mason. The sculpture commemorates Yellow Gold (1921-1938), a popular racehorse at the Trinidad Race Track in the 1930s. There are contrary reports as to whether the horse is buried at the site, the former Roundup Park. IAS files contain an article from the Chronicle-News (Colorado), Aug. 27, 1985.
