    Remarks: 
    One of thirty sculptural replacement markers commissioned by Lake County for significant sites in the historic mining districts to the east of Leadville. The Small Hopes Mining Company, organized in Denver in 1878, operated the Robert Emmett Mine. This mine was the scene of a battle between strikers and mine guards during the Strike of 1896. It was purchased by Empire Zinc Co. in 1916 for an estimated $500,000.
