Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Abstract figure of Icarus lies in death with his wings folded over his body. Three guardian angels form the points of a triangle around the slab where Icarus reclines. The angels are rectilinear in shape, tall, thin and wingless with masklike faces. They are hooded and face outward from Icarus. Box 870270, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35487 Located University of Alabama, Corner of University Boulevard & Hackberry Lane, Tuscaloosa, Alabama Remarks:  Installed as part of the Alabama Biennial exhibition, April 1991-April 1992. Sculpture was purchased for $12,000. Within a week of its installation, the sculpture was vandalized when one of the angels was knocked over onto the Icarus figure, breaking both of them. It was restored shortly afterwards. IAS files contain the text of a nearby commemorative plaque and a related article from the New York Times, May 12, 1991.
