Remarks:
Commissioned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy for an estimated $2,500 or $3,000 . Jim Mott Robinson posed for the
sculpture
. In 1966, the monument was relocated pending completion of a new courthouse. The Hummel figure was destroyed when a portion a building being razed fell on it. A new figure was commissioned of the Georgia Marble Works, and was funded by the City of
Huntsville
and Madison County. The base, which survived the accident, was re-sanded to match the new figure. IAS files include a related article from the Madison County Record, Nov. 6, 1968.
