Sculpture
Owner:
Canaan Ridge School, 2810 Long Ridge Road, Stamford, Connecticut 06903
Remarks:
The sculpture was exhibited in Central Park, New York City in the spring of 1969 by the City of New York Department of Cultural Affairs. In June 1969, the sculpture was moved to Stamford, Connecticut, to the grounds of St. Francis' Episcopal Church, leased by the Canaan Ridge School. Around 1993, the sculpture (deemed by the state as a hazard to children) was relocated from the school's playground to about 50 feet north.
One image on file with IAS shows sculpture sited in Central Park. IAS files include statement from the artist who intended the sculpture "to suggest the above-ground part of a larger subterranean architecture, and thus contrasts what can be seen with what is hidden from view, like a tree and its roots."
