Description:
An artistic stone ground cover consisting of Belgian blocks placed in swirl designs around trees and filling the courtyard area between the Salvation Army headquarters and the Red Shield Building which houses senior citizens and homeless mothers with children. This sculptural environment serves as a play and picnic area for the residents of the shelter. The blocks, found in green and red tones, are arranged to emphasize textural and tonal contrasts. The green blocks form a swirling pattern. This pattern links the six tree basins and provides focal points in the design. The red blocks surround the trees in circular patterns.
