Remarks:
The idea for the sculpture originated with staff from the Kansas Gas and Electric Company, who in 1968 approached Bosin to design the sculpture. KG&E staff developed a model for the piece based on Bosin's design. In 1971, Architectural Metal Products was awarded the contract to fabricate the piece. The sculpture was funded by the State Bicentennial Commission and the City of Wichita, with matching grants totaling $20,000. $8,500 was raised by the Boy Scouts, who sold commemorative medals featuring the design. The sculpture was dedicated May 18, 1974 and has become a symbol for the City.
