    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a sailor carved from a single yellow pine log. He has a full beard and moustache. He wears a sailors cap, long pea coat and trousers. His proper right arm is raised and he holds a lantern in his proper right hand. The sculpture stands directly on the ground, surrounded by crushed stone.

    Nearby plaque: " 'Old Salt'. 'Old Salt' represents the spirit of warmth and hospitality in New England as he holds a lantern to guide the way of visitors to the Lakes Region. He was carved by chainsaw artist Mike Blaine on August 16, 1994 out of a single ten foot yellow pine log weighing 5000 pounds. Lakes Region Factory Stores proudly dedicates 'Old Salt' to our friends in the Lakes Region."
