    Remarks:
General John Frederic Hartranft was a Civil War hero who went on to become a two-term governor of Pennsylvania (1873-1879). The sculpture was originally placed in front of the main entrance to the Capitol Building, but in 1927 it was moved to the front of the Executive, Museum, and Library Building following elections in which the Republican party was ousted. In April 1985, a bronze plaque detailing the Hartranft's career was installed on the base, but the name Frederic was spelled Frederick in error.
