Description:
Italian Renaissance style fountain with three equidistant sea figures set around the rim of the circular basin, facing outward. Figures include: a kneeling merman with his hands raised behind his head; a merman sitting contentedly, cross legged, eating a fish; a mermaid lying on her proper left hip, her proper left arm around what may be a dolphin, her mouth open in slight surprise. Her head is turned to her proper right, her hand reaching out and touching her tail. In the center of the basin water bubbles from a fountain spout in the top of a large triangular piece.

in his 1915 sculpture "The Great Stone Barge" (see IAS 75003652) which was commissioned by James Deering for the bay of Vizcaya Villa. "The Great Stone Barge" deteriorated and in 1978 the remaining figures were recast. Two sets of casts were made, one set for "The Great Stone Barge," and the other set for this fountain. Casting was by Mark Jeffries. For related newspaper article see The Miami Herald, Sept. 1983.
