Description:
A seated male Native American figure made of rose-colored concrete. He sits with his legs crossed in front of him. He is wrapped in a green blanket so that only his bare feet and hands are visible. His proper right hand rests on his proper left shoulder; his proper right arm rests on his knee. His proper left hand rests near the ground. His hair is painted black. He wears a white headband that has a black geometric pattern painted on to it. The sculpture sits on a black concrete self-base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was a Works Progress Administration (WPA) Federal Arts Project piece and was meant to represent the early California Native American. IAS files contain copy of article from Los Angeles Times, Dec. 20, 1936 and related excerpt from Nancy Moure's "Painting and Sculpture is Los Angeles", Los Angeles: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1980.
