Description:
Two female figures sit with hands posed to catch or repell jets of water from the former fountain. The reclining female on the proper right side leans against the seated female. Both of the reclined figure's arms rest on the proper left leg of the seated female. The reclined figure has her legs crossed at the calf, proper right leg over proper left. The seated figure has her proper left arm raised and bent at the elbow as if she is shielding her face. The seated figure's proper right arm is lowered and her hand is resting on the reclined female's back.

Remarks:
The sculpture was a gift from the
sculptor
, his wife, and their daughter, Andrea of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and the sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Jules Laudry and their daughter, Frances Harriet of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Both daughters were students at the school. Stonorov created the fountain with his associate,
Jorio
Vivarelli
of Florence, Italy. Mr. and Mrs. Laundry, after viewing sketches of the proposed design, offered to underwrite the costs of casting, shipping, and installing "The Bathers." The piece originally sat in the center of a reflecting pool with several jets of water spraying over it. The reflecting pool was not holding the water and fear that it would overflow and flood the library basement prompted the college to fill in the pool and landscape the area surrounding the sculpture. IAS files contain an article by Geraldine Heydt dated May 1967.
