    Remarks:
This sculpture is a copy of one located in Venice which was cast by Alessandro Leopardi in about 1483-1488, after a clay model by Andrea del Verrocchio. Rhind was commissioned to do the copy by Christian Feigenspan who reportedly heard Rhind praising the Verrocchio work during a dinner in honor of Rhind's recently installed portrait of George Washington (IAS record 76001635). The mold for the original was in war torn Berlin, but a plaster cast was located in Chicago. Rhind created his sculpture from the Chicago cast, but created the base on his own. Feigenspan gave the sculpture to Newark in honor of the city's 250th anniversary. Bartolomeo Colleoni was a 15th century soldier who fought battles for Venice and for Milan, and left a fortune to carry on the war against the Turks. IAS files contain a newspaper article from the Newark News, Oct. 22, 1961.
