Description:
History painting depicting Belisarius, the commander of Emperor Justinian's armies in the sixth century, in old age, blind and reduced to poverty by the emperor. Belisarius is seen standing in front of Roman ruins, his hand extended for a donation. In the background Roman soldiers stare and point to him.
