Remarks:
The idea for the sculpture originated with the Union Sarah Economic Development Corporation, as part of a larger restoration project for the Fountain Park area of St. Louis. Funding for the sculpture was provided by a Community Block Grant of $43,000 from the St. Louis Community Development Agency. The sculpture was cast in 1977 in Florence, Italy, and was dedicated May 7, 1978, in Fountain Park. IAS files contain copies of articles from St. Louis Post-Dispatch, June 2, 1977 and May 8, 1978. The articles discuss the sculpture's funding and its dedication ceremony.
