    Description: 
    Six figures holding a coffin up on their shoulders. The figures are draped and some are hooded. The faces of the six figures are actual life masks of the students who made the piece.

    Remarks: 
    This piece was done by students of Lorado Zadoc Taft in the summer of 1902 as an assignment while he was in Europe. It is near what used to be Taft's studio. IAS files contain a copies of a one page flyer put out by Northern Illinois University with facts and legends about the piece, an article from, "The Story of Oregon, IL, Sesquicentennial 1836-1986," and an unidentified article with a story about the muses.
