    Description: 
    Standing figure of Andrew Melgaard wearing a suitcoat, vest, pants and lace-up shoes. A handkerchief is tucked in his proper left pocket of the suitcoat and a watch fob hangs to the proper right side. He is holding a top coat and hat in his proper right arm. The statue is placed atop a boulder.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by the city of Aberdeen. Base was donated by John Kruger. The statue commemorates Andrew Melgaard (1842-1911), a Norwegian who settled in the Dakota Territory in 1880. In 1909, he donated 11 acres of land (including the land where the statue now stands) to the City to be preserved as a park. He also later donated the land which has become the site of Northern State College.
