    Inscription: 
    (Bronze marker on base:) The city of Waupun has dedicated this park to the pioneers. It has been set aside as a play space for small children. The sculptured group is the mark of a son of one of the pioneers. It is his expression of gratitude to those who in 1839 founded this city. At the beginning of another century, this statue and site are dedicated to the high ideals of those who will carry on.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was a gift of the artist in memory of his mother and is a tribute to the pioneer families of Wisconsin. The sculpture was dedicated October 20, 1940. IAS files contain articles from State Journal Oct, 31, 1975; Waupun Leader News, June 29, 1939 and April 27, 1939; and the Milwaukee Journal, Dec. 16, 1941. IAS files also contain "Waupun, Wisconsin Visitor's Guide, Waupun Chamber of Commerce, n.d.
    Nearby plaque reads: THE PIONEERS/GIVEN TO THE CITY OF WAUPUN/BY ITS SCULPTOR C.A.SHALER/IN THIS STATUE IS EXPRESSED THE SCULPTOR'S FEELING/FOR THE PIONEERS OF WISCONSIN, AMONG WHOM HIS/PARENTS WERE NUMBERED IN THE MAN'S FACE WE SEE/THE EAGER ENTHUSIASM AND COURAGE TO DARE; IN THE/WOMAN'S THE CALM STRENGTH TO ENDURE; TOGETHER/THEY FACE THEIR TASK OF PLANTING A CIVILIZATION/IN THE WILDERNESS.
