    The painting was destroyed in a fire caused by lightning at Riverview Plantation, the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Whitfield Bird, on June 18, 2016.
    Lelia Jane McCrary Otts (1846-1910) was the daughter of David F. and Elizabeth Lowry McCrary of Greensboro, Alabama. In 1863 she married Rev. John Martin Philip Otts. They had nine sons. IAP files contain additional sitter biographical information.
