    Larger than life bronze head of Leif Erikson on black granite clad pedestal set on concrete slab. The front of the pedestal has a bronze relief plaque of a Viking ship.

    The sculpture was a gift of the Nordic Civic League, presented by Haakon H. Hammer, president. An estimated 80,000 Norwegian Americans attended the dedication ceremony. IAS files contain related newspaper clippings from Los Angeles Examiner, Oct. 2, 1936; Hollywood Citizen-News, Aug. 7, 1936; copy of Municipal Art Department Inventory form, and excerpt from Merrill A. Reed's "Historical Statues and Monuments in California."
