Remarks:
The stele was installed in honor of then-Lieutenant Governor Zell Miller by the Georgia Department of Transportation in recognition of his support of developmental highways. It rests atop a knoll along the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway (State Highway 76) near Miller's home town of Young Harris, Georgia. Miller was elected Governor of Georgia in 1990. Since 1990, the stele has been a target of vandals who periodically splatter it with food, paint and other substances. The Georgia Department of Transportation regularly cleans the damage by sandblasting or steamcleaning.
