Description:
Relief depicts four lines of people at a post office counter. Four postal workers, each behind a computer, attend to the customers. A horse, representative of the Pony Express, stands in the background. The customers are from all walks of life, including mothers with children, skiers, cowboys and working people. To the left stands a figure of Jackson Pollock, who was named for the town. He wears a cowboy hat, a white shirt and blue trousers, all covered with paint drips. He holds paintbrushes in his proper left hand. The word "JACKSON" appears on his shirt.

Remarks:
Commissioned for the new post office building by the then-Postmaster of Jackson. Originally intended for public view, the successive Postmaster and postal officials had the piece installed in the mailroom, as it did not conform to decorating standards established for post offices. A sign at the counter states that the relief may be viewed by the public upon request. IAS files include related articles from the Jackson Hole Guide, Dec. 6, 1995 and the Jackson Hole News, Dec. 20, 1995 and Sept. 4, 1996, which detail the controversy surrounding the work's placement.
