    Remarks:
Cast posthumously. This sculpture is one of several casts after the original made in Worms, Germany in 1868. The sculptor, Ernest Friedrich August Rietschel, died in 1861, before the work was finished. His assistants completed the work, and the original sculpture was dedicated in 1883 in Worms. This cast, acquired by Concordia Seminary in 1903 as a gift of Luther and Walther Monument Association, was first placed on the former campus of the Seminary on South Jefferson Avenue in St. Louis. It was moved to the Clayton campus about 1924.
